Hello Everyone!

We made it to the mid-year point for school!  I want to thank everyone for their incredible support and understanding during this ever-changing time in our lives.  Our Pirate instructional and support family has gradually acclimated to our new campus.  While there are still a few things to put into place, I believe most everyone is very happy about the additional space both inside and out.

There is no way we could have accomplished so much during this challenging time without the ongoing and outstanding support from the Pizitz Middle School PTO!  Sometimes a statement such as this is harder to quantify, but not this year.  Everything from motivational support resources and meals for our Pirate staff to furniture and resources for student learning provides tangible proof that we have THE BEST PTO in our district, which also means the best in Alabama.  Also, let us not forget the individual parent donations and resources support that adds to our student success!  Many of you regularly go out of your way to provide resources and encouragement for Pirate students and staff.  Finally, our Vestavia Hills City School Board of Education continues to provide impeccable support and resources necessary to not only sustain, but to excel on all operational and learning levels.  Together, these areas of support allow us to move forward as a school community in sustaining our efforts to provide a safe and exceptional learning environment for our students.  There is a reason we can say that we are "The Best Middle School in America," and that reason is because we have the best middle school support in America!

Go Pirates!

Dr. Chris Pennington                                                      Principal                                                                    Louis Pizitz Middle School

  From the PTO President

Happy New Year! And goodbye 2020!

We’ve had a successful 1st semester, even in these unusual circumstances, and are gearing up for a wonderful 2nd half of the year! Thank you to all the volunteers who give of themselves and their time to support Pizitz!

Developing a Growth Mindset

Does your child know that learning actually makes their brain grow? Help them develop a growth mindset or attitude by incorporating these two traits.

1. Find Alternating Routes: Rather than thinking, "I'm just not a good writer," they could look for ways to improve their skills. Perhaps act out the story with your child and begin to decide how the characters would really talk.

2. Aim for variety: Encourage your child to strengthen the growing connections in their brain by learning new information in multiple ways. For example, to study Spanish vocabulary, they could choose a picture book and listen to an audiobook version of it in Spanish while following along in the book. That way, they will see, hear, and say the words they are learning.

   Pirivia 2020-2021 Yearbook

Yearbook sales are completed, and books should be arriving in May before school is out for the year.  We will let you know if any extras are available for sale at that time.  We are still accepting photos for the upcoming events here at school.  We would love to have photos of indoor and outdoor track, softball, golf, and tennis as soon as those activities get started.  Photos of practice are great too.  The book must be submitted for publication on March 19th, so please get any photos submitted as soon as possible.
